Cántalo : Mambo de Machaguay (single)

An energetic and hypnotic dance, blending pop groove, Caribbean rhythms, and jazz piano, with the distinctive elements of the “huayno”—an Andean tradition that invites collective dancing and joy.

This 1950s classic evokes traditional Peru, in the mountains of the Arequipa region. The high altitude (over 3,000 meters), the Machaguay Carnival celebrations, traditional dances and costumes, stories of love, exile to the capital, and a return home—all of this is found in the huayno, along with a chorus sung in the Quechua language.

Since the 1950s, “Machaguay” has become a mambo, thanks to Peruvian composers Manuel Guzmán Collado and Alejandro Del Carpio Cornejo, who, in their own way, rode the wave of the mambo craze sparked by Pérez Prado, which went on to become a global hit. Today, Simon Bolzinger and Cántalo offer an energetic and modern take on the genre, blending the sounds of the dance floor, multicultural jazz, and the ancestral trance of the Andes.
